Sponsored by NYCDDC, this new community center located in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Brownsville, replaces an outmoded and insular mid century building that no longer met the needs of the community. The new facility will be anchored by an 18,000 SF “Girls Club,” an after school program providing free, year-round innovative programs in science, technology, art, dance, digital media, sound engineering, wellness, civic engagement, and leadership for young women living in this community, which has historically been underinvested in. The community center will also be the new home of Brooklyn’s Community Board 16, 13,000 SF of rentable office space for community-based organizations, and a 1,500 SF community garden.
